“On January 22, 1945, the Gross Rosen Concentration Camp was being evacuated. A selection took place. The Oberscharführer – the camp commander – did it himself, one by one: “You come along, you come along..” To me, he said: “You will stay.” Myself and the other sick women in the medical ward were to remain and be liquidated by shooting. Three SS-men were assigned to stay behind with us and do this. First, they wanted to dig up a grave, so that there would be no trace. It was freezing and the soldiers had a hard time digging, so they put up fires to soften the earth. They said they would do the liquidation in the morning. During that night there was an air raid, we could hear the Russian tanks coming close. And the SS-men just got on their bicycles and left.“ |
„22. ledna 1945 byl koncentrační tábor Gross Rosen evakuován. Předcházela tomu selekce, kterou prováděl sám Oberscharführer, velitel tábora. Prohlížel si nás pěkně jednu po druhé. „Ty jdeš s sebou, ty jdeš s sebou..“ Mně řekl: „Ty zůstaneš!“ Já a ostatní nemocné ženy na marodce jsme měly zůstat a být likvidovány zastřelením. Za tím účelem tam s námi zůstali tři esesáci. Ti měli ale nejdříve vykopat opodál hrob, aby po nás nezůstaly žádné stopy. Byl tuhý mráz a kopání jim šlo ztěžka. Rozhodli se proto zapálit na tom místě ohně. Nám pak řekli,že likvidaci provedou ráno. V noci byl velký nálet. Ruské tanky se blížily, bylo je už slyšet. Ti esesáci to věděli. V noci sedli na svá kola a zmizeli. Ráno jsme se probudily svobodné.“ |
